The Himachal Pradesh Khadi and Village Industries Board (KVIB) was established in the year 1968. It is a dedicated institution that continuously works to promote khadi and village industries across the state.Its main objective is to create self-employment opportunities in rural areas through traditional handicrafts, cottage industries, and small enterprises, empower artisans, and promote self-reliance.The board runs various schemes and programs through which local producers are provided training, financial assistance, marketing support, and access to markets.KVIB’s goal is to preserve traditional craftsmanship and cultural heritage, strengthen rural livelihoods, and work towards the vision of a ‘Self-Reliant India.’

Khadi is a special kind of fabric from India, hand-spun and hand-woven, usually from cotton, though sometimes silk or wool gets in the mix too. It’s more than just cloth—it’s a symbol of self-reliance and freedom, born from the Swadeshi movement when Indians spun their own fabric to stand up against British colonial rule. Every thread in khadi tells a story of local artisans, simple tools, and a deep connection to sustainability. It’s got this rustic, earthy vibe, with a texture that feels alive, like it carries the spirit of the hands that made it. Wearing khadi is like wrapping yourself in history and pride for small-scale craftsmanship.

Village industries are small, community-based businesses in rural India that produce goods using local resources and traditional skills. These include activities such as khadi weaving, pottery making, leather craft, and the production of honey, handmade soaps, and natural dyes. The products are closely connected to village life and reflect the relationship between the land and the people who work on it.
These industries are not only about making products; they focus on empowering local artisans, preserving traditional crafts, and supporting livelihoods within the community. PMEGP Scheme: |
PMEGP is a credit-linked subsidy programme launched by the Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises, Government of India, on 15th August 2008, by merging the earlier PMRY and REGP schemes. It aims to generate employment opportunities through the establishment of micro-enterprises in rural and urban areas. The scheme is implemented by the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) as the nodal agency at the national level, with state-level implementation by State KVIC offices, State KVIB, and District Industries Centres (DICs). |
