Message from CEO

The Himachal Pradesh Khadi and Village Industries Board (HPKVIB) plays a vital role in promoting rural entrepreneurship and sustainable development through the support of traditional industries and local artisans. Established with the aim of empowering rural communities, the Board facilitates the growth of Khadi and village Industries by offering financial assistance, skill development, marketing support and infrastructural help. By encouraging self reliance and job creation in rural areas, HPKVIB contributes significantly to the state’s economy while preserving its rich heritage of crafts and sustainable practices.
The Board works in close coordination with various government schemes, including the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) to ensure that local entrepreneurs have the resources and opportunities they need to succeed. We urge individuals, artisans and entrepreneurs in Himachal Pradesh to take advantage of the schemes and support offered by the HPKVIB and contributes to a stronger, self sustaining rural economy.

Mahatma Gandhi’s vision for Khadi and Village Industries
“Khadi is the soul of Swaraj and the symbol of economic freedom.” Mahatma Gandhi envisioned Khadi not merely as a fabric, but as a potent symbol of self-reliance, dignity of labour and rural empowerment. For him, the spinning wheel was a tool of peaceful revolution, capable of uniting people through purposeful work and reclaiming economic autonomy. “Every thread spun by the poor is a step towards economic justice.” “Village Industries are not backward – they are the backbone of real India.” He believed that nurturing local craftsmanship and self sufficient village economies would break the cycle of exploitation and restore pride to rural life. Through Khadi and Cottage Industries, Gandhi sought to build an India rooted in simplicity, resilience and equality.
As we carry forward this legacy, we honour not just a fabric – but a movement stitched with hope, hard work and harmony.
